Sales and purchase procedures of Rensen-Driessen scheepsmakelaardij B.V.

Rensen-Driessen Scheepsmakelaardij BV is a broker for the sale and purchase of existing vessels on the basis of your requirements. Our portfolio comprises dry-load vessels, tankers, passenger ships, seagoing vessels and pontoons. Our cooperation with various national and international shipbrokers enables you to choose from a wide range of vessels.

1. Information & orientation
The sales price is set after the broker has carefully inspected the vessel. Based on the length, width, year of construction, usability and marketability of the vessel, we decide with you on a suitable sales price for the vessel.

2. Advice
We can advise you on financing, pricing, purchase, buying continue ship and various other issues concerning inland shipping.

3. Advertising
In consultation with you we advertise in various trade journals and place the vessels on offer onto the internet. In addition to these services, we have an extensive network in the shipping industry which we use for maximum exposure of your vessel to potential buyers.

4. Inspection
As soon as a potential customer is found, we make an appointment for inspection with all parties concerned. It may take some time for all parties to meet for such an inspection.

5. Negotiations
After a positive inspection, the prospective buyer often submits a purchase proposal. From that stage we discuss the negotiation strategy with you. A solid negotiation strategy can make or break a deal. After an offer is accepted, further arrangements are made, such as

  • Condition on delivery
  • Delivery period
  • Financing period
  • Any other arrangements

6. Surveys
After financing is confirmed by the buyer’s bank, appointments are made for the various surveys of the vessel on offer, which are carried out by the following bodies:

  • The loss adjustment agency arranges the required technical survey of the hull
  • The Dutch Shipping Inspectorate or the loss adjustment agency carries out the safety survey in all accessible areas of the vessel
  • An independent valuer draws up a complete report of the vessel
  • An inspection body assesses the vessel’s moving parts (main engine, bow thrusters, generators, etc.) to obtain a general picture of the condition of the engines.

7. Civil-law notary
After various external bodies have completed all surveys, and you and the buyer have reached agreement, an appointment is made with the civil-law notary in the Netherlands. The deed of transfer of title and the mortgage deed drawn up by the civil-law notary, are signed at his office. At this point the sale or purchase is a fact.

8. Handling
As soon as all legal matters have been completed, we can furthermore handle all ship's papers. At this concluding phase, the following ship’s papers are transferred:

  • Tonnage certificate
  • Bilge book
  • Certificates
  • Sailing hours log
